Why The Presidency Must Recognise Our Efforts- Super Falcons
The newly crowned Champions of Africa, Super Falcons of Nigeria have called on the Federal Government to recognise and host them as champions after winning the 10th edition of the African Women Cup of Nations.
The Falcons defeated hosts Cameroon 1-0 in the final played on Saturday to lift their eighth title and 10th overall including when the championship was still a knockout format.
Speaking on arrival from Cameroon on Sunday (yesterday), some of the players said the government should make them happy after they played the competition without support.
“I am expecting the government to recognise us, maybe host and do something for us,” striker Francisca Ordega said. “We all give our best to become champions and I think they should host us and appreciate our efforts. Pay our bonuses and make us happy,
we are not just asking for this because of ourselves but for
the younger ones. “If they can recognise us they will be motivated too and give their best for the country like we did.” During a reception organised by Emzor Pharmaceutical, the captain of the team, Rita Chikwelu, while observing the opening prayer said that God should touch the heart of people in government to attend to their needs.
She added that after working so hard to achieve success, they should be encouraged to do more for the country as they are now ambassadors. The players revealed that they were not intimidated by the crowd on the final day as they had been in such situation in the past.
