Why Nigeria Will Be In Total Darkness Soon -Egbin Power Plant CEO
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Egbin Power Plc, Mr. Dallas Peavey, Jr. in this interview with Punch , says the nation may be enveloped in darkness in the coming weeks due to a myriad of challenges in the power sector.
What do you think about the Nigerian power sector almost three years after it was privatised?
I think at this point, we have gone through so many stages. I think the issue here is liquidity. So many of the owners came and they were thinking that they were going to be reaping some sort of returns after the first three years. In reality, nobody realised that they would go through three years and lose money. Our parent company owns Egbin as well as Ikeja Electric. Having said that, we cover a lot of the areas in Nigeria out of our own pocket. We, as a private company, don’t expect to do that.
I think the government is coming up with a plan and working with us to ensure that we get paid and continue to generate power, and go from the current generation of less than 4,000 megawatts to 10,000 MW in the next five years. At least, that is what we are hoping to achieve. We have got a long way to go, but I think we can get there.

UPDATE; Explosion Rocks New York City, 29 Injured
At least 29 people have been injured in an explosion in the Chelsea district of New York City, officials say. The cause of the blast late on Saturday remains unclear. Mayor Bill de Blasio described it as “intentional” but said that there were no known terror links.
He also said there was no evidence of a link to a pipe bomb explosion in neighbouring New Jersey hours earlier. None of the injuries is life- threatening but one is serious, the fire commissioner said. The explosion in New York occurred around 21:00 (01:00 GMT on Sunday). Witnesses said people ran in all directions following the “incredibly loud” blast. Unconfirmed reports said the blast went off in a dustbin, shattering windows in a nearby building. Several blocks have been closed down by police.
Mr de Blasio said: “We do not see a link to terrorism.” He said it was too early to determine the cause but added: “We believe it was intentional.” Police Commissioner James O’Neill said officers were investigating a second site, a few blocks away from the explosion. Chelsea is among the most fashionable districts of Manhattan and its bars and restaurants are usually crowded at the weekend.
President Barack Obama is being kept up to date on the investigation, a White House official said. The earlier bomb explosion in Seaside Park, New Jersey, on Saturday came shortly before thousands of runners were to participate in a charity race there. No injuries were reported. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton told reporters she had been in touch with New York officials, reports the BBC.
“Obviously we need to do everything we can to support our first responders and pray for the victims,” she said. “I’ll have more to say about it when we actually know the facts,” she added. Speaking at a rally in Colorado before police had commented on the cause of the blast, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump told supporters that a “bomb” had gone off. He said: “Nobody knows exactly what’s going on, but boy, we are living in a time – we better get very tough, folks.”
Yakubu Gowon Responsible For Nigeria's Woes, Clerics Blast
Yakubu Gowon |
Former Military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has been mandated to render a public apology to all Nigerians for bringing "divine curse upon" the nation when his regime severed diplomatic relations with the nation of Israel in 1973. Some prominent clerics described the decision as the height of spiritual shortsightedness that smacked of disrespect for divine
instruction in the Holy Bible, which says that all nations of the world will be blessed through Israel and that whoever blesses or curses Israel will attract blessings or curses, accordingly.
They said that such antagonism against Israel is tantamount to flouting the law of God and only opened channels for the woes subsequent governments brought upon Nigerians through bad governance. The Senior Pastor of God’s Kingdom Christian Centre, Dr. John Kome, said: “Gowon should apologise for severing diplomatic ties with Israel.” Kome said that by his action, Gowon flouted divine words that “those who sever relations with Israel also severs relationship with the God of
Israel.” He added: “Although successive governments may have revised the situation, Nigeria may not have publicly
acknowledged the severity of the Divine Decree and as well publicly offer an official remark to that intent. We must realise how God works. You may take His Decrees for granted and consequently suffer for years until such individual, people or nation acknowledges the supremacy of His word.” Speaking in the same vein, the Presiding Minister of Motailatu Church of God, Lagos Headquarters, Rev. James Akinadewo, insisted that any country where God’s laws are broken with impunity will be under a curse.

The 19-year-old has impressed in the absence of the suspended Sergio Aguero and could be set to remain in the first team as another City frontman in the shape of Nolito faces an enforced spell on the sidelines.
“I feel great,” Iheanacho said. “I need to keep improving and working hard every day to take my opportunity. I’m feeling good every time I play with my teammates, playing to instruction to play good.”
LADIES ONLY: IF Only Ladies Can Stop Doing These 8 Things In Relationships...
There are certain things ladies do that men don't just understand at all and seek answers to.These are some of those things.
We're not dumb. We just really, really, don't understand.
Can somebody invent Google translate between genders? That would be FANTASTIC. Forget Spanish, French, German and Japanese; I need a translator for women.
Ladies: Sometimes, you say and do things that we as men just do NOT understand, and this can make our relationships REALLY freaking complicated.
For the most part, we're practical (notice, the most part). We say what's on our minds and we act based on those thoughts. And due to this simplicity in thought processes, we can NOT wrap our minds around certain things women do.
We love you, we really, really do, but for the life of us, sometimes, we just don't GET you. To make things easier for us, it would really,
REALLY help to straight up TELL us what you're thinking. But until then, here's a few things that we men just don't get about women:
1. “It’s Fine”
No, no it’s not “fine.” Any time a woman says it’s “fine,” it’s a warning sign that a man is doing something very, very wrong.
But why can’t you just tell us? Why say it’s “fine” when it’s REALLY not? For guys, it’s much easier to just say when something is bugging us, so sometimes we just can’t wrap our minds around the concept of women saying it’s “fine.” Can someone explain this?
2. Why do you wear such uncomfortable shoes?
(Seriously.)
Your limping and bruised ankles beg to differ when you say "they are comfy, I swear!" There is NO way that those 6-inch stilettos are “comfy.” You’re basically walking on popsicle sticks.
HOW you do it is beyond us, but WHY you do it is the even bigger mystery. Because they’re cute? Ok, so are baby tigers,
until they get old come after you. Just like your shoes will do to your feet. If they cause more pain than pleasure, wear something else.
3. Why is your purse a black hole?
Phone, keys, wallet. That’s the mantra for a man leaving his house. Why is there an entire ecosystem living in your purse? You have snacks, makeup, an assortment of old candy, and enough spare change to make a CoinStar machine smile, but WHY? There’s a fine line between being prepared and preparing for the apocalypse. And what’s more, you have bags IN your hand bag. It’s like a Russian nesting doll: They just keep unzipping to find smaller and smaller items.
4. Why does bathroom time = a group field trip?
Can you not do it by yourself? Like, really, what DO women do in there? If a guy goes to the bathroom, he’s on a mission and nothing will distract him until his objective is complete. For women, it seems like there's more to the story...
5. Why does chocolate fix EVERYTHING?
“I’m mad.” Chocolate chips. “I’m sad.” Chocolate ice cream. “I’m happy!” Chocolate cake. Why does chocolate seem to be the go-to cure all for basically every situation? Yes, it’s delicious. But is there some kind of magical property to it that men are just oblivious to? It’s almost as if doctors should be prescribing Hershey’s over pain killers. Could the long sought-after secret ingredient to a long- lasting relationship be something as simple as Nesquik?
6. Why do you ask our opinion if you don’t want
it?
If you ask us, we’re going to tell you. If you don’t want us to tell you, why ask? Why do you ask us how you look in something if you don’t want to hear the answer? Men are straightforward thinkers. If you ask a question, we answer. No tricks, no mind games, just response. This gets REALLY confusing.
7. Food: If you want it, GET IT.
If you’re hungry, why did you order a Greek saladwith a side of ranch? I ordered fries because I wanted them — not because I wanted you to ask for some after pecking half-heartedly at your appetizer.
If you want food, order it. We will never understand the logic behind ordering nothing then asking for a “bit of this,” or a “nibble of that.” Can I eat my food in peace, please?
8. Why do you expect us to be mind readers?
We’re men. Sometimes we’re dumb. It happens. But we’re not mind readers. When you ladies say, “well you should have known,” we as men say, “but why didn’t you tell us?”
Men and women communicate very differently, but why is it that women expect men to just “know?” To make things easier, please, PLEASE just tell us.

Pep Guardiola Aims Dig At Mourinho, Says Bournemouth Are The...
Guardiola and Mourinho. |
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola took a swipe at perennial rival Jose Mourinho after watching his side dispatch
Bournemouth 4-0 in a classy display. The excellent Kevin De Bruyne started the rout and Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho doubled the hosts’ lead before half time, before second- half goals from Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan put the game beyond doubt.
Guardiola and Mourinho had recently appeared to have buried the hatchet after a bitter history of media jibes and ugly touchline clashes. However, the former Barcelona and Bayernn manager seemingly couldn’t resist a sly dig at the Portugese for old times’ sake after his side moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League.
‘Bournemouth are the best side we have faced this season,’ Guardiola told BBC Radio Five Live, adding that his side’s other opponents thus far had ‘just used the long ball’.
