Amaechi Defends Senate, Says Ibrahim Magu Is Not Indispensable

Magu

A former Speaker, Imo state House of Assembly Mr Nwoha Amaechi  on Monday said Ibrahim Magu was not indispensable as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) chairmanship.

Amaechi stated this while speaking  with newsmen on the Senate's rejection of Ibrahim Magu by the Senate.

He said that security reports against Magu called for thorough and strict investigation.

“Nigerians should not be in a hurry to condemn the Senate.

“We should not neglect the constitutional role of each arm of government,” Amaechi said.

The former speaker, who commended President Buhari for success recorded in the war against corruption campaign, warmed against undermining it.

It would be recalled that the Senate on Dec. 16 rejected Ibrahim Magu during screening as the substantive EFCC chairman for alleged.

He said that EFCC as anti-graft body ought not to be led by a person of unquestionable character and proven integrity.

Amaechi expressed optimism in the cooperation of the executive and legislature in resolving the issue.

He described the development as the beauty of democracy anchored on checks and balances.

Amaechi, however, advised the executive and senate to respect each other’s constitutional roles in the emergence of a substantive EFCC chairman.
