Iwobi |
Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi has ruined Arsenal’s loss of concentration in the second half of their 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Sunday which badly dented their English Premier League title credentials but he insisted the Gunners would fight to the finish.
The 20-year-old says the Gunners took their “foot off the gas” in the second half with his side having taken an early lead through Theo Walcott in the game. However, Arsene Wenger’s men gave up equaliser just minutes after the break and struggled to recover as City dominated the second half which saw Raheem Sterling netting the winner.
“I guess you could say we took our foot off the gas. Man City took advantage very well in the second half,” he told the club website. “We were up against a tough side we were just unfortunate to not keep the win” He said that Arsenal would not give up in the race for their first EPL title in more than a decade. “We’re going to keep on going, fight until the end and see where we go.
We’ll just have to continue how we were playing at the start of the season. “We just have to get that back and kick on now and prepare well for the next game.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry said that Iwobi’s goal against Manchester City should have stood, same way that of Leroy Sane was allowed to stand.
” You can argue that Sane’s foot is ahead of Koscielny. But, when it’s that close, you have to give the benefit of the doubt, same way that of Iwobi should have stood as well,” Henry said. ” If you are an Arsenal fan you are going to argue there were two offsides. The main thing is that Arsenal didn’t turn up”.
