Oxford Dictionaries has declared “post-truth” as its 2016 international word of the year, reflecting what it called a “highly-charged” political 12 months. It is defined as an adjective relating to circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than emotional appeals.

After several months of speculations about his political future, former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, yesterday formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party in Nigeria.
The move came barely 24 hours after he resigned his membership of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), a party he formed and nurtured for several years. Kalu, who was elected governor of Abia State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1999, governed the state for eight years before he moved away to form the PPA. The pension benefit showed that the Comrade governor would take possession of a residential building worth N200millio while N100 million was approved for his Deputy, Dr Pius Odubu.
